Seminar: The Iliad and The Odyssey: Adventures Back in Time
February 6 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
$40 – $50
For 3000 years, storytellers have recounted Homer’s tales of heroism, love, betrayal, and tragedy in “The Iliad” and “The Odyssey.” “The Iliad,” the story of the Trojan War, speaks of the anguish and futility of war. Eventually, the Trojan Horse ploy ends the ten-year-long war. Odysseus, the Greek mastermind behind that trick, will then spend ten years wandering at sea before arriving home to Ithaca. Before reuniting with his wife and son, he braves monsters, the wrath of the gods, and even a trip to the underworld. Join Dr. Margery Marcus for an adventure back in time, first to ancient Troy, then to the land of the Lotus Eaters, the cave of the Cyclops, Circe’s Island, and even a descent into Hades. And more perils awaited once he finally arrived home! This lecture includes a colorful PowerPoint. Space is limited. “Dr. Marcus ALWAYS gives a flawless, beautifully and thoroughly researched presentation”- OLLI Patron
